Physical Education and environmental education project in the orienteering race for the preservation of the environment

This article is an experience report on a project developed in the discipline of Physical Education, with interdisciplinarity in Environmental Education, carried out with students of the 8th year of a private school, in a tourist city in the pioneering north of Paraná. The objective of this work was to introduce the conceptual part and promote practical experience adapted to the educational context on the orienteering running modality with a strong focus on the issue of environmental preservation during the practice of physical activities in nature. 15 adolescents of both sexes, aged between 13 and 14 years old, participated in the group. The project was carried out in eight classes of fifty minutes each, where it was possible to approach the conceptual part, presenting the orienteering race as a sport of adventure in nature, highlighting its origins, basic rules, the subdivisions of the modality, the instruments used for its practice and profile of practitioners, in addition to planning and executing the practical experience adapted from the modality to an environment outside the school that maintained contact with nature. During the course of the activities, it was possible to observe and make notes in diaries that allowed analysis of the experiences lived by the students. However, it was possible to perceive that the experience outside the school environment and in contact with nature, allowed the students to know the reality of the awareness of local preservation during the practices of physical activities, the need to provide means of intervention for the preservation of these environments, in addition to of a pleasurable experience through an orienteering race adapted to the educational environment.
