Abstract

The media are deeply rooted in our society, influencing our perception and way of life. Among them, the internet and social networks stand out, following the daily life of Brazilians, by offering information and assisting in various tasks, optimizing the day-to-day. However, when dealing with this global means of information and connection, it is important to highlight the risks of inappropriate use of these tools, especially by children and adolescents. With this in mind, this work aims to investigate the influence of media on the precocity of sexualization, focusing on the internet and social networks. Observing which behaviors can promote the precocity of sexualization and what are the impacts of these behaviors on child development, social interactions and personal life of children and adolescents. This research adopts a qualitative and exploratory approach, with bibliographic analysis based on scientific productions. According to the studies, 95% of children and adolescents between 9 and 17 years use the internet regularly, and the first contact with screens occurs in early childhood. In addition, 14% of young people between 11 and 17 years old reported having seen sexual content online (CETIC, 2023). This early exposure to inappropriate content can generally impact child development. It is concluded that without adequate monitoring, children and adolescents can interpret as relevant all information available in these online tools, without questioning, and without a clear understanding of the environment, or what may impact on their development, adopting behaviors that may or may not correspond to your age group.
