Shining in the digital age: unlocking the magic of robotics with Arduino, potentiometers, and LEDs

This experience report explores the practical application of Ausubel's Meaningful Learning Theory in the context of teaching robotics to high school students. The approach used focuses on an activity that involves controlling the brightness of an LED through the Arduino platform. The main objective is to create a solid base of understanding, where the new concepts are integrated in a meaningful way to the previous knowledge of the students. The text details the adopted methodology, from the preparation of the materials to the conduction of the activity, passing through the theoretical contextualization, construction of the circuit, programming and experimentation. The importance of active learning is highlighted, in which students interact with electronic components, experiment, adjust the circuit and observe changes in LED brightness. The activity promoted discussions and reflections, allowing students to share their experiences and insights. The results of the activity were positive, demonstrating high student engagement, solid conceptual understanding, practical application of knowledge and encouragement for future exploration in the field of robotics and electronics. The adopted approach serves as an example of how technology, combined with the Theory of Meaningful Learning, can enrich STEM education in high school, promoting deep and meaningful learning.
