This study compared the effectiveness of five surgical techniques for the treatment of morbid obesity, using the BAROS (Bariatric Analysis and Reporting Outcome System) system. The research was conducted at Clínica Marchesini, in Curitiba, Paraná, and involved 102 patients undergoing surgical treatments between 1995 and 2002. The techniques analyzed were Roux-en-Y Gastrojejunal Bypass (Fobi-Capella), Biliopancreatic Bypass (Scopinaro ), Biliopancreatic Bypass with Duodenal Switch, Vertical Gastroplasty with Mason Band and Adjustable Gastric Band. The results showed significant variations in weight loss between the different techniques. The Duodenal Switch technique was the most effective, followed by the Fobi-Capella technique. The use of the BAROS protocol allowed a detailed and comparative evaluation, contributing to the choice of the most appropriate technique for each patient. The study highlights the importance of a personalized approach in the treatment of morbid obesity.
